One97 Communications' stock subsidiary, Paytm Money has appointed Sandiip Bharadwaj as CEO. Bharadwaj, who previously led HDFC Securities as chief operating and digital officer, had stepped down from his position a month ago, stated a media report.

Bharadwaj, who succeeds Rakesh Singh, will take over his responsibilities, while Singh is reported to be assuming a different role within the group.

At HDFC Securities, Bharadwaj oversaw digital businesses, brand and marketing, product, distribution, platform management, customer service , B2B relations, design (Ux) and product innovation, investment services, and growth.

He began his career at ICICI Capital Services, and then headed ICICI Bank as branch sales manager. Then, he moved to HDFC Bank where he was national head - sales and strategy, financial planning. Bharadwaj also held stints at Religare and Angel Broking, and was the CEO - retail broking at IIFL Securities.


Bharadwaj is also the co-chairman at ASSOCHAM (The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India).

Paytm Money appoints Sandiip Bharadwaj as CEO

Nishant Kedia, chief marketing officer, Rebel Foods, believes that leadership is largely about building the right kind of team.


“If a leader can build a team that’s motivated, enabled, happy, and driven by purpose, three-fourths of the job is already done,” he says.


He adds, “I’m also a big believer in planning. When things are well thought out—both in our personal and professional lives—it allows us to channel our energy into something that can create a multiplier effect.”

What kind of marketing related content do you consume?


I follow several media portals that focus on marketing, and lately, I’ve been reading a lot about how AI is rapidly transforming the marketing and business landscape.


Who are your favorite creators and what draws them to you?

When it comes to my personal content consumption, it has largely shifted toward fitness. I follow quite a few fitness influencers, along with comedians and finfluencers (finance influencers).


What is your sport/fitness routine like?


My day starts with getting my daughter ready for school. I’ve hired a personal trainer and dedicate about an hour to exercise—usually a mix of strength training, cardio on some days, and flexibility workouts on others, about four to five times a week.


For breakfast, I focus on a protein-rich diet, complemented by health drinks to keep my body hydrated.

Throughout the day, I make it a point to walk as much as possible. When I have calls, I prefer to take them while walking, and during meetings, I usually stand instead of sitting.

I aim to complete around 7,000 to 8,000 steps every day.


How does your routine weekend go? 

I try to maximize my time with family over the weekends.

Every alternate weekend, we meet up with friends and go shopping. Being in Mumbai, weekend getaways happen about once a month.

So, roughly every four weekends, we do one of these three things.

For me, the weekend is all about destressing, relaxing, unwinding, refueling, and strengthening personal bonds—whether with family or friends.


What have you been watching on weekends?

Lately, I’ve been watching the latest season of the American psychological thriller series You.
Besides that, I’m always eager to catch whatever new releases come to Netflix, especially comedies and independent, non-commercial films.


Any work or life hack you swear by?


No matter what you do, you’ll be working with a team. If a leader can build a team that is motivated, empowered, happy, and driven by purpose, then three-quarters of the job is already done.


My main goal is to solve team members’ challenges, mentor them, and help enable their growth along the way.
I’m also a big believer in planning. When we plan well—both personally and professionally—we can channel our energy into efforts that create a multiplier effect.

What is your advice to avoid personal and professional burnout?


There are many goals we want to achieve in our professional lives. Some things are within our control, while others are not.

Every effort we put in leads to certain results, and all we can do is give our best.


If the outcome doesn’t meet expectations, it’s important to stay detached enough to find peace with both the effort and its result.


Another key aspect is focusing on health. Maintaining a balanced diet, staying physically active, and getting at least seven hours of sleep each night can help us stay energized every day.


Taking occasional breaks—like a weekend trip with family, lunch or dinner outings with teammates, off-site meetings, or even a simple 30-minute pause—can go a long way in preventing burnout.


A piece of advice you would like to share with Gen Z


Gen Z has had a very different experience compared to those of us born in the ’80s. They’ve grown up immersed in digital and social media.

My advice to them would be not to lose sight of real-world relationships beyond the digital world. I encourage them to put their phones aside and be fully present with their friends and family.

This, I believe, will help them gain valuable experiences and perspectives that they might miss if they simply follow the crowd online.


What's the best advice you got or heard in life?


Focus on giving your best. When you make peace with the effort you’ve put in, it brings a deep sense of satisfaction.


Even if the outcome isn’t what you hoped for, but, if you are proud of your efforts, it will still provide fulfillment.

Larry Ellison, the co-founder of Oracle and the world's second-richest man, has launched the Ellison Institute of Technology (EIT) - an initiative aimed at addressing some of humanity's most urgent challenges, as per media reports.

The new institute, created in collaboration with the University of Oxford, marks a significant departure from Ellison's earlier philanthropic path.

In a public post on X, Ellison reflected on his earlier commitment to the Giving Pledge, stating, "Years ago, along with Bill Gates, Warren Buffett, and others, I declared support for the Giving Pledge because I believed and continue to believe that practicing philanthropy by giving to nonprofit organizations that pursue public good is important."

Retail chain Shoppers Stop's long-serving Chairman, BS Nagesh, has retired after a 34-year tenure at the helm. 

Following his departure, Nirvik Singh will take the reins of the K Raheja Corp-owned retail chain, marking a new chapter for the company.

Nagesh has been associated with the Company since its inception in 1991, first as its founding employee and later in various key leadership roles. 

Over a career spanning 34 years, Nagesh began his career as the General Manager, tasked with launching the department store under the K Raheja Group. He went on to serve as Managing Director until 2009. Later, he was appointed to the position of Vice Chairman of Shoppers Stop, and from 2018, he became Chairman of the Board.

Singh has more than 35 years of work experience in marketing and business leadership. Singh began his career with Lipton India, a Unilever company, and later moved to Grey Group, where he held top executive positions, including CEO, Chief Operating Officer, and Chairman & CEO.

Until 2024, Singh was the Global Chief Operating Officer and President, International Markets of Grey Group.

'Shoppers Stop Q1 FY2026'

Shoppers Stop released its Quarter 2 earnings for the fiscal year 2026 on Thursday. The clothing-to-cosmetics store chain narrowed its consolidated losses to Rs 15.74 crore in the June quarter for fiscal year 2026 from Rs 22.72 crore in the corresponding quarter in FY25.

Shoppers Stop's BS Nagesh resigns after three decades, Nirvik Singh to take the reins

The European Commission has quietly paused a major investigation into Elon Musk’s X, raising eyebrows over whether regulatory enforcement is being softened to smooth geopolitical negotiations, Reuters reported.

As per the report, the probe, part of the EU’s new Digital Services Act (DSA) enforcement against online platforms that fail transparency and content moderation standards was expected to wrap before the Commission’s summer recess. 

According to The Financial Times, that timeline has now been pushed back, with sources suggesting the delay is tied to the ongoing EU-U.S. trade talks.

While the Commission insists the investigation into X is still “ongoing” and independent of political developments, Financial Times reported that three officials told that a decision is now likely only after trade negotiations reach clarity.

The delay is significant. X is under scrutiny for potentially breaching key provisions of the DSA, which could result in penalties of up to 6% of global turnover or even an operational ban in the EU for repeated violations.

Critics say the timing raises uncomfortable questions about whether enforcement of landmark digital laws is being deprioritized in favor of broader diplomatic goals.

EU delays Musk’s X probe amid U.S. trade talks

Apollo Tyres has appointed R Mahalakshmi as its new chief human resources officer (CHRO). She brings nearly three decades of rich experience across India, Africa, the UK and Southeast Asia.

 
As a key member of Apollo Tyres’ global executive committee (ExCom), Mahalakshmi will shape and drive company’s global people strategy in alignment with its growth ambitions. She will spearhead initiatives to maximise organisational effectiveness, refresh and evolve people policies, and strengthen the company’s people-first agile growth culture, highlighted the company in its statement.

Apollo Tyres appoints R Mahalakshmi as CHRO

Flipkart has handed over the reins of its Mobiles category to Kanchan Mishra, Business Unit Head of Flipkart Minutes, its quick commerce arm, Moneycontrol reported. This leadership consolidation comes in the wake of Smrithi Ravichandran’s exit, a veteran who spent over 13 years at the Walmart-owned e-commerce major, most recently serving as Vice President and Head of Mobiles and Travel.

As per the report by Moneycontrol, Mishra, who has been with Flipkart for 11 years, confirmed that will now lead both Mobiles and Minutes. Meanwhile, Manjari Singhal, Chief Business and Growth Officer at Cleartrip, will take over the Travel business.

The leadership transitions come at a time of intensified industry competition, especially in the quick commerce segment, where rivals like Blinkit, Swiggy Instamart and Zepto are aggressively scaling. 

While Flipkart has not confirmed Ravichandran’s departure, the internal moves suggest the company is doubling down on leadership depth and continuity amid market churn.

Flipkart elevates Kanchan Mishra to lead mobiles and qcomm

When Rithuparna KS didn't get a government medical seat after her NEET results, it seems like a dream had collapsed. But what happened to be an ending turned into an extraordinary beginning. 

Just two years later, the 20-year-old from Koduru in Karnataka's Thirthalli taluk is preparing to move to Texas, USA, to join Rolls-Royce's Jet Engine Manufacturing Division - on an eye-popping annual package of Rs 72.3 lakh.

Rithuparna's pivot to engineering came out of necessity, not passion. In 2022, she secured a seat in Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management through the Common Entrance Test (CET) and enrolled in a Bachelor of Engineering course in robotics and automation. The initial disappointment of missing out on medicine gave way to grit and drive.

From day one, she immersed herself in her new path - building, experimenting, and pushing limits.

Her first project - a robotics-based arecanut harvester and sprayer - won accolades including gold and silver medals at the Goa INEX Competition. She collaborated with doctors to study robotic surgery, worked with municipal officials on solid waste management, and joined a research team at NITK Surathkal.

But it was her bold move to cold-email Rolls-Royce that changed everything.

Intent on securing an internship with a global aerospace firm, Rithuparna approached Rolls-Royce directly. Their response was anything but encouraging - they questioned her capabilities and stated she might not be able to complete even one assigned task in a month. 

Undeterred, she asked for a chance to prove herself - just one task.

She got it. And she completed it in a week.

That one-week delivery kicked off an eight-month-long engagement filled with assignments, evaluations, and gruelling interviews. Her persistence paid off in December 2024, when Rolls-Royce extended her a pre-placement offer.

Since January 2025, she’s been juggling her college work with midnight-to-6 am shifts for the aerospace giant. Her initial annual package of Rs 39.6 lakh was revised in April to an astounding Rs 72.3 lakh.

Failed NEET, landed Rolls-Royce: Who is Rithuparna KS and how did she get a Rs 72 lakh offer at 20?

As India's media and entertainment landscape undergoes seismic shifts - driven by changing consumption habits, the OTT boom, advertiser realignments, and digital disruption - legacy players are being challenged to transform from within.

At the heart of this transformation is Zee Enterprises Entertainment Limited (ZEEL), which recently revealed a bold new brand identity under its 'Z What's Next' vision.

To decode the story behind the rebrand and understand the road ahead, Storyboard18 caught up with Ashish Sehgal, Chief Growth Officer at ZEEL, for an in-depth conversation on platform evolution, regional strategy, and the new face of engagement in the content-first economy.

Rebranding with Purpose

Zee's new brand identity, launched as part of its 'What's Next' vision, marks a significant shift for the legacy media company. But what does a refreshed logo or sleek brand narrative really mean for the business?

"The whole idea to rebrand the whole Zee offering and also the identity was to connect with today's consumer," Sehgal explained. "And when I say today's consumer, it does not mean only youth. The way everybody is consuming media is changing... So it becomes very important that you refresh your brand, you don't remain fuddy-duddy."

He emphasized that the rebranding was not just about aesthetics but about evolving Zee's promise as content-first company powered by technology. "We are saying: I am content first, and technology is going to help me build that reach. So I will take my content wherever the consumer is sitting."

And that, Sehgal noted, is key to attracting advertisers. "What is an advertiser wanting? Advertiser is looking at the consumer I am reaching to... If I reach more and more consumers, it helps us to take that reach to the advertiser for them to build their businesses."

Diversifying Revenue: Beyond Linear, Beyond Ads

Zee is moving swiftly to counter headwinds in the traditional television space by unlocking new monetization avenues across digital and live formats. "We have now, of course, Zee5, which is a digital offering," Sehgal noted. "We have opened up even ads onto our AVOD consumers so that we can offer premium customers to our advertisers."

The company is also reinvesting in live events and IP-driven experiences to deepen engagement and drive experiential brand value. "We are creating our old IPs, building them, and curating them from today's perspective. That helps brand building and becomes a touch point for advertisers to engage with our consumers."

Sehgal also touched on newer distribution and monetization models. "We have opened up FAST channels recently on OEMs... So only advertising money from television is not the focus. We are now opening new streams to improve our subscription base through offerings like seven language packs, and even exploring commerce through content."

The Zee Bet: Building, Not Buying

With Pay TV under pressure and the rise of streaming giants, the media landscape is ripe for consolidation. Yet, Sehgal reasserted Zee's confidence in organic brand creation over acquisition. "Zee has always believed - more than acquisition - we try to build our own brands."

Pay TV still remains relevant, he insisted. "It is still the biggest reach medium for any advertiser, even at current stage... and people who came onto free TV a few years back are now upgrading themselves onto television."

To reinvigorate Pay TV, Zee is betting big on exclusive content and strategic premieres. "Like IPL did a reverse thing, going behind paywall on digital, which brought back people back to TV. Similarly, we are doing a lot of TV-first premieres of our movies. So that will help build the Pay TV ecosystem."

Regional is the New National

If there's one megatrend defining Zee's roadmap, it's localization. And it's not just a regional strategy - it's a language-first strategy.

"Regional is the buzzword today," Sehgal said. "even platforms like YouTube and Facebook are now creating more regional content because they understand India is not one language or culture."

But Zee is going further. "We don't call it regional anymore. For us, Hindi is also a language. So out strategy is all language-based. There's no 'national' strategy now."

This language-centric model is about maximizing cultural resonance and return on investment. “One language may have fewer consumers, but that consumer may be from a much richer state,” Sehgal pointed out. “You have to touch base in their own language, in their own culture.”

Navigating Disruption and Distribution

On the challenges facing TV distribution - TRAI tariff orders, bundling woes, and OTT migration - Sehgal admitted that innovation is the need of the hour.

"It is always about how to innovatively create your packages for cable operators to showcase and become more relevant from the content being consumed in each state," he said. 

That will help us to still see that the overall revenue on the distribution side is not de-growing.”

As for the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting’s recent proposal to introduce multiple audience measurement systems, Sehgal remained cautious. “It’s just a draft where they’re asking for consultations… I have no comment to make right now on that.”

Zee's Big Bold Bets

Looking to the future, Sehgal outlined two major bets that will help shape Zee's 2-25-25 playbook.

"One is building more and more homegrown IPs - not just for one market but that can travel across platforms and languages," he said. "The second is growing our new-age platform Zee5... So we want to own the consumer on both ends - linear and digital."

And the golden thread tying it all together? Language.

"Language-based content is going to be the underlying theme in every strategy we make," Sehgal concluded. "Once you have one successful IP, you can replicate that into other markets. That's the vision.

'Regional is the buzzword today': Ashish Sehgal on why language-first content is the future of India

Novartis appointed Mukul Mehta as the chief financial officer (CFO) and a member of the Executive Committee of Novartis (ECN), effective March 16, 2026. Mehta succeeds Harry Kirsch, who has served as CFO since 2013, and will retire from Novartis after a 22-year career with the company. Kirsch will continue in his role as CFO and member of the ECN until March 15, 2026.


Mehta brings over 20 years of experience at Novartis, having held key finance leadership roles across geographies and business units. 


He was recently appointed to the role of head of BPA, Digital Finance and Tax, which he will continue until March of next year. His career includes serving as CFO International for three years, ad-interim President International, CFO Pharmaceuticals business unit, CFO Novartis Business Services, CFO Pharmaceuticals Europe business, and country CFO of France, Poland, and Norway.

Mehta holds a degree in Management from the Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies in India and an MBA from INSEAD France.
