India's vehicle retail sales have witnessed a 4.84% rise in June 2025 year-on-year. According to the data by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA), 20,03,873 units of vehicles were sold in June 2025 compared to 19,11,354 units in the same period last fiscal.

The 2-wheeler sales climbed by 4.73% to 14.46 lakh units YoY; 3-wheeler sales saw a 6.68% jump at Rs 1 lakh units; Passenger Vehicle sales up by 2.45% units to 2.97 lakh units, and Commercial Vehicle sales increased by 6.60% to 73,367 units in June 2025 YoY.

"The month of June recorded a healthy 4.84% YoY growth overall. Segment-wise, every category closed in the green: 2W at 4.73%, 3W 6.68%, PV 2.45%, Trac 8.68%, CE 54.95% and CV 6.6%," FADA President, CS Vigneshwar said.

However, on a month-on-month basis, vehicle retail sales have dropped by 9.44%. In May 2025, 22,12,809 units of vehicles were sold as per FADA. 2-wheeler retail sales dropped by 12.48%  in June 2025 on a month-on-month basis, while Passenger vehicle sales declined by 1.49% in the same duration on a month-on-month basis.

FADA attributed the month-on-month decline in 2-wheeler and PV retail sales to heavy monsoon, tight liquidity, and shift in festival or marriage demand.

"2W retails dipped 12.48% MoM but still notched a 4.73% gain on a YoY basis. While the festival and marriage season demand provided a boost, financing constraints and intermittent variant shortages moderated sales. Early monsoon rains and rising EV penetration also shaped buying patterns. Several dealers cited compulsory billing and forced stock lifts—often via auto-debit wholesalers—leading to mandated high days of inventory aligned with festival-season targets. Overall, June demonstrated a resilient two-wheeler performance amid mixed market signals," the FADA President added.

In contrast, commercial vehicle sales saw a 2.97% drop on a month-over-month basis, Fada added.

"Early-month deliveries buoyed volumes before monsoon-induced slowdowns and constrained liquidity dampened enquiries and conversions. Members pointed to the impact of new CV taxation and mandatory air-conditioned cabins, which have elevated ownership costs, alongside muted infrastructure demand," he added.

According to the auto federation's July outlook, the dealers have anticipated a slowdown in retail sales due to heavy rainfall, variant shortages, and price increases.


"PV faces high-base effects, limited new-model launches, and tight financing, offset in part by festival planning and fresh incentive schemes. CV continues to grapple with muted infrastructure demand, higher ownership costs from new taxation and mandatory AC-cabin norms, even as extended order pipelines provide some relief. Overall, July is likely to witness mixed fortunes—driven by agrarian tailwinds and school reopenings, yet tempered by seasonal headwinds, elevated price points, and liquidity constraints," FADA mentioned.


Auto sales up by 4.84% in June 2025 YoY; Delears anticipate slowdown in July: FADA

German luxury car maker BMW Group has registered a 10% jump in sales between January and June 2025 in India. The company sold 7,774 units in the first half of 2025 compared to 7,081 units in the corresponding period last year.

Besides, the electric vehicle sales also saw a jump of 234% year-on-year. According to the company, the electric cars hold an 18% share in total sales in the Indian market, with the X1 model becoming the highest-selling SAV not just for the Group but in India's premium compact segment. 

The automaker sold 7,774 BMW and Mini cars and 2,569 motorcycles in H1 2025. The MINI brand delivered 297 units, with the Mini Cooper S remaining the highest-selling model in H1 2025, witnessing a 60% rise YoY.

BMW Group's President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Vikram Pawah said that the sports activity vehicles (SAVs) and sedans have continued to witness a rise in demand. BMW's SAVs recorded 17% growth between January and June 2025


Despite a challenging environment, the BMW Group President said the company is on the fast track as it posted a 10% growth.

"We continue to unfold new opportunities in the luxury segment," Pawah said in a report by the PTI news agency.

According to the report, out of all the car models, the BMW iX1 Long Wheelbase emerged as the highest-selling electric car, followed by the flagship BMW i7. 

The long-wheelbase BMW models, including the BMW 7 Series, 5 Series, and 3 Series, BMW iX1, recorded 159% growth in the first half of the year. These models account for 47% share of the total sales.

The BMW 5 Series was the highest-selling BMW sedan in H1 2025, and the BMW 3 Series retained its class-leading position.

BMW Motorrad sold 2,569 units of motorcycles between January and June 2025.

Meanwhile, rival Audi India witnessed a 14% decline in sales to 2,128 units in H1 2025. Audi India attributed the slowdown in luxury car sales to reduced demand due to price increases and market uncertainty amid geopolitical tension.

However, the company is confident about the improvement in sales in the forthcoming festive season.

German luxury carmaker's Indian arm has witnessed a slump in sales between January and June 2025. Audi India's sales have reduced by 14% to 2,128 units in the first half of 2025 as against 2,477 units in 2024.

The company attributed the slowdown in luxury car sales to reduced demand due to price increases and market uncertainty amid geopolitical tension.

The luxury carmaker hiked prices across its car models by 2%  from May 15 onwards this year, citing exchange rate fluctuations and rising input costs. In January, the company implemented a price rise og up to Rs 1.95 lakh on select models.

However, Audi India is confident about the improvement in sales in the forthcoming festive season.

"While H1 2025 presented unique market challenges, we have used this period to strengthen our foundation for sustainable growth," said Audi India Head Balbir Singh Dhillon.

In the overall calendar year 2024, Audi registered retail sales of 5,816 units.

Audi India's car model includes  Audi A4, Audi A6, Audi Q3, Audi Q3 Sportback, Audi Q5, Audi Q7, Audi Q8, Audi S5 Sportback, Audi RS Q8, Audi Q8 e-tron, Audi Q8 e-tron Sportback, Audi e-tron GT, and Audi RS e-tron GT. 

The company is robustly betting on Electric Vehicles (EVs) in the country, installing over 6,500 charging points across the country. Audi India partnered with 16 new EV infrastructure providers to bolster the EV charging network.

According to a report by Business Standard, Audi India believes that EVs will comprise 30% of the luxury car market by 2030. 

Audi has committed to transitioning its global lineup to fully EVs by 2033, with India becoming a key manufacturing hub. 

The company has witnessed a shift in its buyers, with the young generation and women becoming crucial customers of the luxury cars.

Women account for 11% of Audi's customer base, up from 1% seven years ago.

According to Ken's research, the Indian luxury car market is valued at $ 1.14 billion, fuelled by a growing consumer base and rising disposable income across urban centers. 

Luxury cars now account for over 2% of all new car registrations in urban centers like Delhi, Mumbai, and Bangalore. The demand for premium sedans and SUVs has particularly grown in tier-1 and tier-2 cities.

Top carmakers, Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai Motor India, are betting on overseas markets to drive growth in the current fiscal year, even as they brace for tepid expansion at home.

Hyundai Motor India, the country’s second-largest passenger carmaker, expects to grow its export volumes by 7% to 8% in fiscal 2026, after shipping 163,386 vehicles last year. The company sees India becoming its largest export base outside of South Korea.

“We aspire to continue our growth trajectory in exports in the coming years,” said Unsoo Kim, Hyundai Motor India’s managing director, during an analyst call. Emerging markets will remain the key growth engine, he added, as per a PTI report. 

Maruti Suzuki India, the nation’s largest automaker, is more bullish. The company is aiming to export 400,000 vehicles in fiscal 2026, a 20% increase over the 332,585 units shipped last year. That figure represented a 17.5% jump from the previous year and accounted for 43% of India’s total passenger vehicle exports.

“Our target is at least four lakh [400,000] units this year,” said Rahul Bharti, senior executive officer for corporate affairs at Maruti Suzuki, during a media briefing. The automaker is close to the golden mark of 50% [market share in exports], as per the report. 

Maruti’s export portfolio includes key models such as the Fronx, Jimny, Baleno, Swift, and Dzire. The company’s top five markets in FY25 were South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Chile, Japan, and Mexico. Notably, Maruti has made inroads into Japan, with just two models quickly making it the company’s second-largest export destination.

“The interesting part is that the EV is yet to come,” Mr. Bharti said, suggesting that the launch of electric vehicles could further boost export volumes.

Both automakers are turning to exports as the domestic landscape grows more uncertain. While Hyundai remains focused on strengthening its SUV and premium product lines in India, executives acknowledged that growth in the local market would likely mirror overall industry trends.

“The demand environment in the domestic market continues to be challenging,” Kim said, pointing to a combination of rising costs and slower consumer demand. The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) has forecast low single-digit growth in domestic passenger vehicle sales for fiscal 2026.

Suzuki Motor Corporation, Maruti’s parent company, echoed that sentiment last month, projecting industry growth in India to be between 1% and 2% for the year. Despite this, Maruti expects to outperform the market, maintaining its dominant position.

In eary June, commenting on HMIL sales, Tarun Garg, Whole-time Director and Chief Operating Officer, HMIL said, “HMIL’s total sales volume for May 2025 stood at 58,701 units. May is a month of our routine week-long biannual maintenance shutdown at our Chennai manufacturing facility which affects availability of few critical models. We continue to witness consistent growth in our exports volume and this is a testament to the 'Make in India, Made for the World' philosophy that we passionately uphold. Going forward, we remain hopeful of a steady increase in demand for both domestic as well as international shipments with reduced uncertainty on the geo-political front and improved macro-economic situation.”

Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai see export growth as domestic market softens

India's vehicle market witnessed a 2.95% year-on-year rise in sales in April 2025 amid a halt in the tariff war and a bullish stock market, according to the latest data by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations of India (FADA). 

Notably, the sales of 3-wheelers witnessed a massive jump among all segments of vehicles in April 2025. The three-wheeler sales surged to 99,766 units--an increase of 24.51% YoY. The 2-wheeler sales increased by 2.25% at 16,86,774 units while passenger vehicles saw an increase of 1.55% at 3,49,939 units in the same period.

FADA President CS Vigneshwar noted, "Dealers reported buoyant inquiry growth in rural areas post-Rabi harvest, driven by strong crop yields, healthy reservoir levels, and a favourable monsoon outlook, while wedding-season tailwinds sustained rural offtake. Urban demand remained robust, supported by new-model introductions, although elevated financing costs posed isolated bottleneck".

In contrast, sales of commercial vehicles declined 1.05% at 90,558 units in April this year. Dealers feedback highlighted that advance purchases in March resulted in elevated carryover stocks, while holiday calendars dampened fresh inquiries, the FADA President added.

The association said IMD's above-normal monsoon forecast will fuel rural income, along with Reserve Bank of India's bond purchases will inject surplus liquidity into the banking system, paving the way for enhanced auto-loan affordability.  Dealer feedback also painted a nuanced picture for May across all segments. In the 2-wheeler segment, marriage season and post-harvest demand should underpin inquiries.

However, summer heat and school holidays may further suppress showroom visits though IMD predicts that it may not be as bad as last year. PV retails are expected to hold steady but muted, as buyers await new-model roll-outs and contend with elevated financing costs. Commercial vehicles are likely to trade flat, weighed down by a high base effect, slower e-commerce activity, and intensifying competition from electric three-wheelers.

Overall, Fada said demand will be choppy, but disciplined inventory management, targeted incentives, and easing borrowing costs should help the industry navigate the month. 

Auto retail sales up by 2.95% YoY in April; Dealers predict choppy demand in May: FADA

Bajaj Auto has witnessed an 8% rise in its total sales in May 2025 compared to the same period year-ago period. The two-wheeler manufacturer's domestic sales increased by 2% to 1.91,412 units in May 2025 compared to 1,88,340 units in May 2024. In contrast, the exports surged to 1,40,958 units in May 2025 compared to 1,17,142 units in May 2024--an increase of 20%.

Bajaj Auto's commercial vehicle sales dropped by 7% to 34,321 units last month but exports increased by 37% to 17,930 units in the same duration.

Overall, Bajaj Auto's sales, including domestic and export stood at 3,84,621 units in May 2025 up by 8% year-on-year.

Bajaj Auto's March quarter profit dropped by 10% in the fiscal year 2025. According to the Q4 earnings, Baja Auto's consolidated profit stood at Rs 1,801.85 crore compared to 2,011.43 crore in the same quarter in fiscal year 2024.

However, the revenue from operations increased by 9.4% to Rs 12,646.32 crore in Q4 FY24 versus Rs 11,554.95 crore in the corresponding quarter last fiscal.

In Q4FY25, Bajaj's EBITDA stood at Rs 2,451 crore, up 6 % YoY majorly due to favorable currency, cost reduction on the new Chetak platform, and higher discretionary spending notably on brand investments, and jigs/fixtures among others, the company said.

Bajaj's motorcycles, such as Pulsar, Avenger, and Dominar, among others, witnessed a subdued demand in the domestic market in the January-March quarter of 2025 despite the decisive pricing actions.

In contrast, the premium bikes business gained momentum in the same period, with Triumph volumes doubling to a new high of 12,000 units.

The electric 3-wheelers continued to drive the double-digit growth in commercial vehicle revenue in Q4 FY2025, led by the launch of Bajaj 'GoGo'.

Overall, Bajaj Motors FY25 profit declined by 5% to Rs 7,324.73 crore. Bajaj Auto Limited was 1.99% down on Monday, trading at Rs 8,432 in response to the de-growth in domestic auto sales in May 2025

Maruti Suzuki's passenger vehicle sales witnessed a 5.5% drop in May year-on-year. The automaker's domestic PV sales stood at 1,35,962 units in May 2025 compared to 144,002 units in the same period in 2024. 

Among all the key segments, MSI's mini cars, such as Alto and S-Presso, witnessed a 31.5% drop in sales at 6,776 units in May 2025.

In the same period, MSI's Baleno, Celerio, Dzire, Ignis, Swift, and WagonR's sales declined to 61,502 units--a 9.8% drop YoY. The May sales of mid-size models, such as Ciaz, reduced to 458 from 730 units in 2024.

However, Maruti's utility vehicles segment saw a marginal rise of 1.2% in May sales.

Maruti sold 54,899 units of Brezza, Ertiga, Fronx, Grand Vitara, Jimny, XL6, and Invicto models in May 2025 compared to 54,204 units in the same period last year.

Additionally, Maruti Suzuki's commercial vehicle sales also increased marginally to 2,728 units in May 2025 versus 2,692 units in May 2024.

Overall, MSI domestic sales, including PV, Light commercial vehicles, and Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) dropped by 5.29% in May 2025 to 148,858 units.

Notably, the exports climbed up to 31,219 units last month--up 80% YoY. 

Whereas the total sales of Maruti Suzuki vehicles, including domestic and export, increased by 3.16% in May 2025.

"In May 2025, Maruti Suzuki India Limited sold a total of 180,077 units. Total sales in the month include domestic sales of 138,690 units, sales to other OEM of 10,168 units, and exports of 31,219 units," the automaker mentioned in a stock exchange filing.

Maruti's stock was trading at 0.93% lower at Rs 12,204 at 11:04 am on BSE.

Overall, Bajaj Motors FY25 profit surged to Rs 7,324.73 crore--a decline of 5% year-on-year (Rs 7,708.24 crore in FY24). The company registered a total income of Rs 52,468.96 crore in FY25 compared to Rs 46,306.45 crore in FY24. The automotive major's revenue crossed the Rs 50,000 crore mark for the first time, up 12% YoY, led by record sales of both vehicles and spares.

In fiscal year 2025, Bajaj Motors clocked EBITDA at Rs 10,1010 crore up 14% YoY, and the EBITDA margin held steady at 20.2% across quarters.

According to the stock exchange filings, domestic motorcycle revenue hit a peak in the focussed 125cc+ segment in FY25. Pulsar crossed Rs 10,000 crore in domestic revenue and Freedom turned over Rs 500 crore brand within five months of launch, it added.

Ola Electric has registered a 106% increase in losses in the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2025. The EV manufacturer losses climbed to Rs 870 crore in Q4FY25 compared to Rs 419 crore in the corresponding quarter in FY2024.

Overall fiscal 2025 losses have widened to Rs 2,259 crore versus RS 1,587 crore in the year-ago period.

Ola Electric's revenue from operation has also taken a major hit in the March quarter of fiscal 2025. The company's quarterly revenue reduced from Rs 1,598 crore in Q4FY24 to Rs 611 crore in Q4FY25--43% drop

While the total income stood at Rs 728 crore in the same quarter. The company attributed the decline in sales to the overall impact on the 2-wheeler industry. In a media statement, Ola Electric said, "The pace of EV penetration growth was relatively slower in FY25,  driven by weakness in urban demand at a time when the E2W industry was largely urban focused in both products (Scooters) and distribution (Tier 1 cities) coupled with a steady moderation in government subsidies".

However, the company has exuded confidence that urban demand will improve in FY26 on the back of tapering inflation and declining interest rates.

The 2-wheeler EV maker said that it will continue to focus on scaling revenue and operating leverage in fiscal year 2026. Charting out the plan for FY26, the company mentioned three focus areas for FY26, it said, "We will continue to focus on creating technological leadership through vertical integration. Further, it said that expansion into motorcycles, deeper vertical integration, and boosting the EV distribution network will improve its margins.

The company will scale the reach of its recently launched Roadster franchisee.

This year, in February, Ola Electric launched the Roadster X motorcycle with a starting price of Rs 99,999.

Tata Motors on Tuesday announced the Quarter 4 results for the fiscal year 2025. The automaker giant registered a consolidated profit of Rs 8,556 crore in Quarter 4 fiscal year 2025 compared to Rs 17,528 crore--a decline of 51%. In full fiscal 2025, Tata Motors registered a profit of Rs 28,000 crore compared to Rs 31,807 crore in FY24.


Tata Motors' revenue in Q4 FY25 stood at Rs 118,927 crore, while the full fiscal 2025 revenue stood at Rs 436,821 crore with EBITDA at Rs 57,600 crore.


Tata Motors' Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) reported a 10th profitable quarter in a row. The Q4 revenue of the JLR stood at Rs 84,957 crore down 1.7% a year, and FY25 revenue remained flat at Rs 314,220 crore.

The wholesale of Defender hit a new record at 115,404 units in FY25, Range Rover Sport wholesales for the year were up 19.7% year-on-year in FY25.


According to JLR Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Adrian Mardell, “JLR has ended the year with strong annual and quarterly earnings, including delivering our tenth consecutive profitable quarter and our net debt zero target. We have achieved record sales of Defender, revealed the stunning Jaguar Type 00".

JLR is set to launch Range Rover Electric, the CEO added without disclosing additional details.

Tata Motors' passenger vehicle revenue saw a major hit in Quarter 4 FY25. According to the Q4 earnings, the PVs revenue declined by 13.1% to Rs 12,543 crore in Q4 FY25. On a full-year basis, the PV business revenue declined by 7.5%  to Rs 48,445 crore due to a reduction in hatches volume. 

Tata Motors said that the overall demand growth will be shaped by macroeconomic factors such as consumption growth, inflation, infrastructure spending, and global geopolitics.


The momentum of the industry is dependent upon a range of factors, such as evolving customer preferences, but, Tata Motors has pinned hope that SUVs, CNG, and EVs will remain key growth drivers in FY2026.

SUVs accounted for 55% of the total PV sales of Tata Motors in fiscal 2025. 

"Passenger vehicle sales in India grew by a modest 2% in FY25, but set a new record with over 4.3 million units sold. This growth was fueled by the rising popularity of SUVs, which accounted for 55% of total sales and a rapidly increasing consumer preference toward environmentally friendly powertrains. Electric vehicles showed renewed momentum, supported by a growing number of industry players expanding customer choices and reinforcing the EV ecosystem. In a year marked by fluctuating demand, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles led the industry in SUV growth and outpaced the market in CNG sales," Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director TMPV, said.


The domestic wholesale commercial vehicle volumes stood at 99,600 units, down 4.8% in Q4 FY25 YoY. For the full year, overall revenues declined by 4.7%. The CV revenue stood at Rs 21,487 crore in Q4 FY25 and full FY25 CV revenue stood at Rs 48,445 crore, down 7.43%. 

FY25 ended on a positive note for the Commercial Vehicles industry; an improvement vs the YoY demand decline witnessed earlier. Our focus on profitable growth enabled the CV business to deliver annual revenues of Rs 75,000 crore. We will continue to deliver greater value through cutting-edge products, intelligent services, and end-to-end mobility solutions that meet the evolving needs of our customer," Girish Wagh, Executive Director Tata Motors Ltd said.
