Meta has patched a serious security vulnerability in its AI chatbot platform that allowed users to access private prompts and AI-generated responses from other users, according to a TechCrunch report.

The bug was responsibly disclosed by Sandeep Hodkasia, founder of security testing firm AppSecure, who told TechCrunch he received a $100,000 bug bounty for the discovery.

Hodkasia identified the flaw on December 26, 2024, and Meta deployed a fix nearly a month later, on January 24, 2025. A Meta spokesperson confirmed the issue to TechCrunch, stating that the company "found no evidence of abuse and rewarded the researcher."

The vulnerability stemmed from the way Meta AI handled editable prompts. Logged-in users could regenerate text and images by editing their original input. However, Meta's servers assigned each prompt-response pair a unique, sequential number - one that Hodkasia discovered could be manipulated. By intercepting and altering this number through browser network traffic analysis, he was able to retrieve other users' content without authorization.

“The prompt numbers were easily guessable,” Hodkasia told TechCrunch, warning that malicious actors could have exploited this by using automated tools to scrape user data at scale.

Although Meta confirmed that no exploitation was detected, the incident underscores the ongoing privacy and security challenges tech firms face as they race to roll out generative AI tools. 

Meta’s standalone AI app, launched earlier this year to compete with platforms like ChatGPT, had already drawn criticism for privacy mishaps after some users unintentionally shared private conversations publicly.

Meta fixes privacy bug in AI chatbot that exposed user prompts

The heads of multi-billion dollar companies' salaries have soared massively as their responsibilities in navigating risks and making strategic decisions have become more significant amid the global uncertainties and competition for adoption of AI technology.

According to a report by Adweek, Microsoft's Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Satya Nadella emerged as the highest-paid CEO in 2024. His compensation amounted to $79.1 million for 2024, comprising salary, bonuses, equity awards, and other compensation. Nadella's compensation is nearly five times more than the median CEO who runs a company listed in the S&P 500. Citing Equilar, the media report mentioned that the median salary is $16.4 million.

Additionally, Apple Inc. CEO Tim Cook, along with Netflix's co-chief executive officer, Ted Sarandos, and Greg Peters, earned compensation above $60 million, well above the average for leaders in similar roles.

Cook's compensation was recorded $74,609,902, while Sarandos earned $61,922,397 and Peters $ 60,272,574 in 2024.

The annual compensation of David Zaslav, CEO of Warner Bros., stood at $51,918,563 in the same period. Disney's Bob Iger's compensation rose to $40,618,873, and Spotify CEO Daniel Ek salary rose to $667,308.

Notably, Disney's Bob Iger finished the year with the biggest gap. Iger earned 746 times the median Disney employee salary, followed by Cook with 650 times the median Apple employee salary, and Nadella with 408:1.

Among the top-listed companies of S&P, the lowest gap in the median employee salary versus the CEO was reported at Alphabet Inc., CEO Sundar Pichai earned 32 times the median Alphabet employee salary. Pichai's annual compensation stood at $10,319,413 in 2024. A similar trend was seen in Amazon and Meta, wherein Andrew Jassy earned 43 times the median salary of an Amazon employee, and Zuckerberg earned 65 times the median salary of a Meta employee.

Tesla’s top sales executive in North America has left the company, marking the latest in a string of senior departures as the electric vehicle maker contends with slowing sales and intensifying competition. Troy Jones, vice president of sales, service and delivery for Tesla’s largest market, exited after 15 years at the company, The Wall Street Journal reported on Tuesday, citing people familiar with the matter.

Tesla’s top North America sales executive departs amid broader executive exodus

In a move to deepen cross-border technology collaboration and strengthen the India-US tech corridor, industry body Nasscom has launched the Nasscom US CEO Forum, a premier platform designed to accelerate bilateral cooperation in innovation, digital transformation, and inclusive economic growth.

The forum was officially launched last week at the Consulate General of India in New York, marking what the Indian Consulate called a “major milestone” in strengthening India’s position as a trusted technology and innovation partner globally.

Cognizant CEO Ravi Kumar has been appointed as Chair of the forum, with Amit Chadha, CEO and Managing Director of L&T Technology Services, taking on the role of Co-Chair.

Designed to foster high-level strategic dialogue, the forum aims to bring together top Indian tech CEOs and key US stakeholders across enterprise, innovation, public policy, and talent development. The launch drew praise from officials and industry leaders alike, with New York City Mayor Eric Adams affirming the city's commitment to deeper collaboration with India’s innovation ecosystem.

New NASSCOM forum aims to drive $500 billion India-US trade vision

Tejas Networks reported a loss of Rs 193.87 crore in the first quarter of fiscal year 2026. The company's losses have widened sequentially, registering Rs 71.80 crore of losses in the previous quarter (January-March) in fiscal year 2025. 

Notably, in Q1 FY24, Tejas Network had reported a profit of Rs 77.48 crore, and full fiscal 2025, it clocked a consolidated profit of Rs 446.53 crore.

The optical, broadband, and data networking products company's revenue from operations has dropped by 95.04 percent to Rs 201.98 crore in Q1 FY26 compared to Rs 1,562.77 crore in the corresponding quarter last fiscal.

The total income has also plunged to Rs 211.53 crore, with an 86.57 percent decline year-on-year, while on a sequential basis, it declined by 89 percent. Tejas Network had clocked a revenue of Rs 1,914.98 crore in the previous quarter (January to March), ending on 31 March 2025.

According to the stock exchange filing, Tejas Networks attributed the Q1 losses to a range of factors, including delayed receipts of purchase orders (PO), delayed inventory arrival, and shipment clearances for a few customers.

In the wireless business, Tejas received automated purchase orders for an additional 18,685 sites for BNL's 4G expansion during Q1 FY25. The company also received an initial order for a private 5G deployment under BSNL’s CNPN (Captive Non-Public Network) initiative.

The Tata Sons-owned company also teamed up with Intel to integrate direct-to-mobile (D2M) capability in laptops. Besides, Lava and HMD India announced plans to launch D2M-enabled mobile phones using Tejas’s SL-3000 chipsets.

In the April to June quarter, Tejas Networks won tenders in the infrastructure sector, such as the supply of wireline equipment to railways, oil and gas, and defence.

Shares of Tejas Networks declined by 6.04 percent to Rs 657.25 apiece on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) at 1:14 pm (IST).

At a time when every scroll, swipe, and second counts, what does it really take to sustain relevance - and revenue - in the content economy? This was one of the main topics of the panel discussion hosted by Storyboard18's Editor Delshad Irani featuring digital content creators Ankush Bahuguna, Shibani Bedi, and Raj Grover.

The creators dived deep into the content format debate: long-form vs short form, and how platforms are shaping their craft and career.

Each creator, with their unique journey, agreed on one thing - platforms may dictate format, but creators must dictate value.

"See, I feel I'm done chasing virality," said Ankush Bahuguna. "Virality can only do so much for you. I think beyond a point, for people to take you seriously - especially in beauty - if you want to be a key opinion leader, there is a lot more I can do than just make a 90-second reel."

While Instagram remains the primary platform for both Ankush and Shibani, the shift towards YouTube's long-form format is intentional - and strategic.

"You want sustainability and longevity more than virality," added Bedi. "Virality can take you so far, but that’s not the only thing that’s driving your relevance. Ultimately, it’s about how strongly you’ve established yourself across mediums as a brand in its own capacity."

YouTube, the panelists noted, offers creators more consistent visibility, robust monetization tools, and stronger audience loyalty.

"YouTube is the platform that you go to watch someone, specifically," Bahuguna explained. "That's where more loyalty comes into the picture."

Raj Grover, the youngest on the panel, echoed this sentiment, "The people who are meeting me and reacting like they've seen a Bollywood star - they are the ones who watch me on long form, not reels."

But that doesn't mean short-form is obsolete. Far from it. All three acknowledged the power of short-form to drive reach and quick engagement - though it comes with its own trade-offs.

"You just have to bark at the camera to get someone's attention in a second," quipped Bahuguna. "This is why all creators talk very fast, and they talk very loud... because you have to scream into the camera to get the attention."

Bedi agreed. "There are times when I do question, why am I being so hasty? My language stops languaging after a point when I'm thinking, 'Why has this happened?'"

Grover pointed out that while reels can drive numbers, long-form content builds real, lasting influence. "If someone is listening to you for 15 minutes... that's it. That's real connection."

In a creator economy evolving at breakneck speed, the panelists also addressed shifting algorithms, monetization challenges, and the need for creators to diversify across formats and platforms. With YouTube Shorts pushing into Instagram's territory, and vice versa, adaptability remains key.

But more importantly, the creators emphasized staying true to their audience, even while navigating commercial pressures.

"What I keep telling brands is - you're not paying me just to upload the video. You're paying me to conceptualize the video," Bahuguna explained. "That is my job. Don't do my job. Because then both of us will not benefit from it."

In the battle between virality and viability, what wins? For these creators, the answer is clear: content may be king, but context—and connection—is everything.

As Bedi put it: "Value, whether it is for yourself, your credibility or your commercial viability—that’s what counts. Not just views."

In a year defined by record stock market performance and ballooning profits, Microsoft has quietly executed one of the most significant corporate restructurings in its history - eliminating more than 15,000 jobs in just the first seven months of 2025.

The layoffs, which now account for nearly 7% of Microsoft's 228,000-person global workforce, are not the product of financial distress.

Instead, it is a realignment to fund an $80 billion push into artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure and to reshape the company's internal cost dynamics.

A systematic downsizing

Microsoft's 2025 workforce reduction was neither sudden nor isolated. It unfolded in deliberate stages, each building toward a stepping transformation:

- January 2025: Roughly 1% of staff let go during the annual performance review cycle.

- May 2025: The company cut around 6,000 roles, primarily in product and engineering. 

- June 2025: About 305 employees were laid off, mostly at Redmon headquarters.

- July 2025: The most significant wave - 9,000 employees - was announced, affecting approximately 4% of the total workforce.

The AI-first agenda

According to CEO Satya Nadella, AI tools such as GitHub Copilot now generate nearly 30% of the company's code, significantly reducing the need for traditional software engineering labour, reports suggest.

By slashing headcount, Microsoft is redirecting resources from payroll to processors - investing in AI data centers, advanced chips, and the core technologies that will underpin its next era.

Gaming Division cuts

The toll has been particularly harsh in Microsoft Gaming. The division is being "harvested" to fund the AI engine.

Studios such as The Initiative have been shuttered. High-profile game titles like Perfect Dark and Everwild have been cancelled. The focus has shifted away from bespoke AAA games to a streamlined Game Pass-driven model, leveraging existing IP rather than creating new ones.

Strategic layoffs: A pattern repeated

Microsoft's 2025 restructuring continues a pattern of strategic layoffs across its recent history:

- 2014: 18,000 jobs cut (14%) post Nokia, enabling the "mobile first, cloud first" shift.

- 2023: 10,000 roles eliminated to integrate Activision Blizzard.

- 2024: Nearly 2,000 jobs slashed in Xbox and related divisions to align with ongoing gaming consolidation.

Each wave was tied to a pivot. But 2025 stands apart in both scale and focus. This is not just a reset - it is a complete reimagining of Microsoft's future.

Microsoft's 2025 layoff ledger: More than 15,000 jobs axed in seven months

Elon Musk's artificial intelligence startup, xAI, is facing mounting criticism from employees after mandating the installation of Hubstaff, a productivity-tracking software, on their personal computers - a move that has ignited debate over privacy and workplace surveillance.

According to a report by Business Insider, xAI employees were instructed earlier this month to download Hubstaff, which monitors work activity by tracking websites visited, applications used, keystrokes, mouse movements, and even capturing periodic screenshots during work hours.

The directive was not limited to company-issued laptops; staff using their own devices were also required to comply, with an initial deadline set for July 11.

The company's human resources team justified the rollout in an internal email, stating that the software would "streamline work processes, provide clearer insights into daily tutoring activities, and ensure resources align with Human Data priorities. The primary target of this monitoring is employees involved in training xAI's chatbot, Grok.

However, the policy quickly drew ire from within. Employees voiced strong objections, with one resigning in protest and describing the move as "surveillance disguised as productivity" and "manipulation masked as culture" in a Slack message that garnered widespread support among colleagues. Many staff members expressed concern that the requirement to monitor personal devices crossed a line, undermining trust and the company's culture.

After Business Insider contacted xAI for comment, the company partially reversed its stance, allowing employees who requested company laptops to delay installing Hubstaff until they received their official devices. Yet, ambiguity remains for those who already installed the software or purchased new hardware to comply with the original mandate.

xAI has emphasized that Hubstaff’s tracking is limited to designated work hours and does not monitor activity outside of those times. To address privacy concerns, the company suggested employees could either use a new company-issued Chromebook or create a separate login profile on their personal computers.

Despite these reassurances, the controversy has highlighted broader tensions at xAI, where some employees see the move as part of a pattern of high-intensity demands and top-down control reminiscent of Musk's management style at other ventures like X and Tesla.

Critics warn that such policies may hinder xAI's ability to attract and retain top talent in the competitive AI sector.

Elon Musk's xAI sparks employee backlash over mandatory surveillance software

Mark Zuckerberg is set to take the stand this week in a rare $8 billion shareholder trial that will scrutinize Meta’s handling of user data in the years leading up to and following the Cambridge Analytica scandal. The trial centers on allegations that Facebook’s leadership, including Zuckerberg and former COO Sheryl Sandberg, violated a 2012 Federal Trade Commission agreement to protect user privacy, operating the social media giant as what shareholders claim was an illegal enterprise, as per a Reuters report.

Shareholders, including individual investors and major pension funds such as California’s State Teachers' Retirement System, allege that Facebook continued to allow user data to be harvested without consent, despite repeated assurances to regulators and the public. The plaintiffs argue that Zuckerberg and others should reimburse Meta for more than $8 billion in fines and costs, including the FTC’s record $5 billion fine in 2019, tied to privacy violations revealed in the Cambridge Analytica fallout.

The Reuter report stated that the trial is expected to run eight days and will revisit boardroom decisions from a decade ago to determine whether Facebook’s leaders knowingly failed in their duty of oversight. 

The defendants, who include venture capitalist Marc Andreessen, Netflix co-founder Reed Hastings and Palantir co-founder Peter Thiel, have rejected the claims as “extreme” and argue the company invested heavily in privacy compliance and was misled by Cambridge Analytica’s “studied deceit.” 

Among the allegations, shareholders also claim that Zuckerberg sold billions in stock ahead of the Cambridge Analytica scandal’s public revelation, allegedly reaping over $1 billion in profit while knowing the crisis would hit the stock price. Zuckerberg’s legal team counters that the sales were conducted under a prearranged trading plan and aimed to fund his philanthropic initiatives, the report added.

Sharing a photo of an elderly woman wearing a Blinkit delivery jacket, he wrote, "Saw this woman the other day, and thought maybe she should learn Python. Perhaps she can fine-tune an LLM too, while delivering your groceries."

"Every time I say India needs jobs along with deep-tech, someone sends me a whitepaper on AI skilling. Basically parroting the West without understanding our own reality," Mittal wrote.

He acknowledged the sweeping changes brought on by AI globally, stating, "AI replacement and automation is happening at the top cos in the world including Microsoft, Meta, Google. Their CEOs are on record: 40-50 per cent of work processes will be AI-driven in 2-3 years. Yes, true!"

However, Mittal emphasized that those countries - unlike India - have low populations, high formal employment rates, and substantial reskilling budgets.

Reflecting on his time in the US, he said, "When I worked in the US, every time a new tech or software rolled out, we were upskilled in real time not just as individuals, but across the entire organisation. India is not there yet given that most are self-employed."

He credited the gig economy for enabling employment for millions, particularly in a country that holds nearly 20 percent of the world's population. But he also cautioned that this sector remains fragile.

"The gig economy is a blessing. But when we start touting deep-tech as the only solution to all our problems, we endanger the livelihoods of a billion plus nation," Mittal warned.
