Byju’s founders Byju Raveendran and Divya Gokulnath are pursuing legal action against Glas Trust and other lenders to the edtech company, seeking $2.5 million in damages. The founders allege that the lenders’ actions have harmed both their business and personal reputations, stated a media report.

The lawsuits, which are currently being planned, target parties whom the founders allege played a role in the downfall of Think & Learn, the parent company of Byju’s. Some legal claims have already been filed against Glas Trust, a former subsidiary, which now seeks control over parts of the business.

Glas Trust, which represents Byju’s U.S.-based lenders, had extended $1.2 billion in term loans to the edtech company.

Riju Raveendran, a director at Think & Learn, filed a petition last month with India’s National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT), seeking the removal of Glas Trust as a financial creditor and from the company’s Committee of Creditors, added the report. 


Glas Trust has also filed a lawsuit in a U.S. bankruptcy court against Byju’s founders and the company’s former Chief Strategy Officer, Anita Kishore. The trust alleges that they orchestrated a scheme to conceal and misappropriate $533 million from the $1.2 billion loan taken by Byju’s U.S. subsidiary, Alpha.


On July 7, the court held Byju’s in civil contempt for failing to comply with its orders to produce documents related to the case.


Divya Gokulnath, who is also participating in the U.S. proceedings, has challenged the court’s jurisdiction over the claims made against her and has denied all allegations, further added the report.

PepsiCo is undergoing a significant transformation, not just in what it sells, but in what it no longer includes. As per reported by Reuters, the snack and beverage giant announced plans to relaunch its flagship Lay’s and Tostitos brands later this year, this time spotlighting the absence of artificial colors and flavors.

This cleaner-label pivot comes amid growing momentum from Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and the Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) movement, which advocates for “whole foods” and transparency in processed products. In response, food manufacturers across the U.S. are rethinking long-standing ingredients, particularly synthetic dyes and oils.

As per the Reuters report, CEO Ramon Laguarta pointing to the humble potato chip as a naturally simple snack said that the company is trying to elevate the real food perception of Lay's. The company also revealed it will expand the use of avocado and olive oils across its portfolio, a direct nod to growing scrutiny over the health impact of traditional oils like canola and soybean.

The rebranding effort follows limited traction from PepsiCo’s “Simply” line of dye-free snacks. Now, with the mainstream Lay’s and Tostitos brands being reformulated, PepsiCo is testing whether clean ingredients can scale without compromising affordability or mass appeal.

The company is also leaning into another rising trend, protein. It plans to enter the liquid protein space, with high-protein offerings coming to PopCorners and Quaker snacks, tapping into the demand for functional, health-oriented food.

Larry Ellison, the co-founder of Oracle and the world's second-richest man, has launched the Ellison Institute of Technology (EIT) - an initiative aimed at addressing some of humanity's most urgent challenges, as per media reports.

The new institute, created in collaboration with the University of Oxford, marks a significant departure from Ellison's earlier philanthropic path.

In a public post on X, Ellison reflected on his earlier commitment to the Giving Pledge, stating, "Years ago, along with Bill Gates, Warren Buffett, and others, I declared support for the Giving Pledge because I believed and continue to believe that practicing philanthropy by giving to nonprofit organizations that pursue public good is important."

Bharti Airtel on Thursday announced a partnership with Perplexity, the AI-powered search engine, offering eligible users in India one year of free Perplexity Pro subscriptions.

Unlike conventional AI chatbots such as ChatGPT or Gemini, Perplexity functions as a real-time AI search engine that gathers information directly from the web to answer user queries.

The deal appears to be part of a broader push to introduce Indian users to Perplexity’s unique offering - one that bypasses Google's long-standing grip on search habits. And with Airtel’s deep penetration across the country, the free Pro subscription puts Perplexity directly into the hands of millions.

The internet, predictably, had thoughts - and plenty of theories.

Some users speculated that the move might be linked to increasing Perplexity's valuation amid rumours of potential investment or acquisition by Apple. "It also seems like a ploy to get valuation up for potential Apple buyout or investment," one user noted.

Others viewed the move through a monetization lens, suggesting it's not just about paid subscriptions. "I'm assuming it's not just a monetization play but also about massive consumer tech adoption leading to an advertising business," read another comment.

Supporters rallied behind the initiative, cheering on Perplexity's "desi" partnership. "Let's be a good team to PPLX. After all, apna bhai hai... DESI," one user quipped.

Others, however, saw a calculated customer acquisition strategy. "This is mostly a Google habit-breaking promo. Most people in India wouldn't even know about Perplexity if this deal hadn't dropped. Now, with free Pro access, they’ll probably use it — and it feels premium,” one commenter observed. “Plex hopes that once the Pro period ends, some users stick around on the free version. Eventually, it can start showing them ads. Not sure they care about pro users.”

Others called it a bold move in India’s growing consumer AI race. “Great CAC [customer acquisition cost] strategy to watch out for in India’s AI space,” one user wrote. “The key will be converting free usage into paid utility."

In a world where bottled water ads usually push sleek designs and purity claims, a quiet revolution was brewing in Colombia - and it came in the form of a humble bottle cap.

The campaign didn't scream luxury or lifestyle. Instead, it addressed a basic human need: safe drinking water. And it do with smarts, sustainability, and soul.

Filsa, a Colombian water filter brand, teamed up with Ogilvy Colombia, Baylor International, and the Colombian Red Cross to tackle the country's water crisis in a way that was both deeply practical and emotionally powerful. 

The result? Filter Caps - small, 3D-printed biodegradable caps made from sweet corn starch resin that can mineralize and purify water on the go.

The premise was simple but striking. Over 3.7 million Colombians, particularly the Wayuu community in the desert region of La Guajira, lacked access to safe drinking water. 

Traditional water purifiers were wither too expensive or too complex. Filter Caps flipped the script. They transformed ordinary water bottles into pocket-sized water treatment plants - no electricity, no fuss.

And this wasn't just a charity drop-and-go stunt.

The initiative was designed with long-term impact in mind. 1,000 caps were distributed through a coordinated effort with humanitarian partners, helping provide over 10,000 people with access to clean drinking water. 

The campaign claimed an estimated 1.8 million tonnes of filtered water per year. That's not just awareness - it's impact.

Visually, the campaign didn't need glossy cinematics. The story was compelling enough: real communities, real problems, real change.

The biodegradable angle was the idea extra weight in a world increasingly allergic to plastic. In many ways, the campaign spoke louder in silence than most with multimillion-dollar media budgets.

The takeaway? This wasn't an ad that asked you to buy - it asked you to believe in better.

Global Ads Spotlight: How a tiny filter made a big splash in Colombia

As India's media and entertainment landscape undergoes seismic shifts - driven by changing consumption habits, the OTT boom, advertiser realignments, and digital disruption - legacy players are being challenged to transform from within.

At the heart of this transformation is Zee Enterprises Entertainment Limited (ZEEL), which recently revealed a bold new brand identity under its 'Z What's Next' vision.

To decode the story behind the rebrand and understand the road ahead, Storyboard18 caught up with Ashish Sehgal, Chief Growth Officer at ZEEL, for an in-depth conversation on platform evolution, regional strategy, and the new face of engagement in the content-first economy.

Rebranding with Purpose

Zee's new brand identity, launched as part of its 'What's Next' vision, marks a significant shift for the legacy media company. But what does a refreshed logo or sleek brand narrative really mean for the business?

"The whole idea to rebrand the whole Zee offering and also the identity was to connect with today's consumer," Sehgal explained. "And when I say today's consumer, it does not mean only youth. The way everybody is consuming media is changing... So it becomes very important that you refresh your brand, you don't remain fuddy-duddy."

He emphasized that the rebranding was not just about aesthetics but about evolving Zee's promise as content-first company powered by technology. "We are saying: I am content first, and technology is going to help me build that reach. So I will take my content wherever the consumer is sitting."

And that, Sehgal noted, is key to attracting advertisers. "What is an advertiser wanting? Advertiser is looking at the consumer I am reaching to... If I reach more and more consumers, it helps us to take that reach to the advertiser for them to build their businesses."

Diversifying Revenue: Beyond Linear, Beyond Ads

Zee is moving swiftly to counter headwinds in the traditional television space by unlocking new monetization avenues across digital and live formats. "We have now, of course, Zee5, which is a digital offering," Sehgal noted. "We have opened up even ads onto our AVOD consumers so that we can offer premium customers to our advertisers."

The company is also reinvesting in live events and IP-driven experiences to deepen engagement and drive experiential brand value. "We are creating our old IPs, building them, and curating them from today's perspective. That helps brand building and becomes a touch point for advertisers to engage with our consumers."

Sehgal also touched on newer distribution and monetization models. "We have opened up FAST channels recently on OEMs... So only advertising money from television is not the focus. We are now opening new streams to improve our subscription base through offerings like seven language packs, and even exploring commerce through content."

The Zee Bet: Building, Not Buying

With Pay TV under pressure and the rise of streaming giants, the media landscape is ripe for consolidation. Yet, Sehgal reasserted Zee's confidence in organic brand creation over acquisition. "Zee has always believed - more than acquisition - we try to build our own brands."

Pay TV still remains relevant, he insisted. "It is still the biggest reach medium for any advertiser, even at current stage... and people who came onto free TV a few years back are now upgrading themselves onto television."

To reinvigorate Pay TV, Zee is betting big on exclusive content and strategic premieres. "Like IPL did a reverse thing, going behind paywall on digital, which brought back people back to TV. Similarly, we are doing a lot of TV-first premieres of our movies. So that will help build the Pay TV ecosystem."

Regional is the New National

If there's one megatrend defining Zee's roadmap, it's localization. And it's not just a regional strategy - it's a language-first strategy.

"Regional is the buzzword today," Sehgal said. "even platforms like YouTube and Facebook are now creating more regional content because they understand India is not one language or culture."

But Zee is going further. "We don't call it regional anymore. For us, Hindi is also a language. So out strategy is all language-based. There's no 'national' strategy now."

This language-centric model is about maximizing cultural resonance and return on investment. “One language may have fewer consumers, but that consumer may be from a much richer state,” Sehgal pointed out. “You have to touch base in their own language, in their own culture.”

Navigating Disruption and Distribution

On the challenges facing TV distribution - TRAI tariff orders, bundling woes, and OTT migration - Sehgal admitted that innovation is the need of the hour.

"It is always about how to innovatively create your packages for cable operators to showcase and become more relevant from the content being consumed in each state," he said. 

That will help us to still see that the overall revenue on the distribution side is not de-growing.”

As for the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting’s recent proposal to introduce multiple audience measurement systems, Sehgal remained cautious. “It’s just a draft where they’re asking for consultations… I have no comment to make right now on that.”

Zee's Big Bold Bets

Looking to the future, Sehgal outlined two major bets that will help shape Zee's 2-25-25 playbook.

"One is building more and more homegrown IPs - not just for one market but that can travel across platforms and languages," he said. "The second is growing our new-age platform Zee5... So we want to own the consumer on both ends - linear and digital."

And the golden thread tying it all together? Language.

"Language-based content is going to be the underlying theme in every strategy we make," Sehgal concluded. "Once you have one successful IP, you can replicate that into other markets. That's the vision.

'Regional is the buzzword today': Ashish Sehgal on why language-first content is the future of India

Intel Corp. is laying off more than 5,000 employees across four U.S. states, according to updated Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) filings reviewed by Manufacturing Dive.

The wide-reaching job cuts are part of the semiconductor giant's ongoing restructuring efforts aimed at cost reduction and business simplification under the leadership of CEO Lip-Bu Tan.

The most significant workforce reductions are taking place in California and Oregon. According to revised California WARN filings, Intel has more than doubled its layoff estimates in Santa Clara and Folsom to 1,935 employees. The layoffs began in Folsom on July 11 and in Santa Clara on July 15.

In Oregon, Intel has sharply increased the number of planned separations at or near its Hillsboro campuses - the center of its R&D operations - from 529 to 2,932 employees. The company has also amended filings in Arizona, with 696 employees now facing layoffs in Chandler. In Texas, 110 employees in Austin are also affected, the report added.

The chipmaker initially reported plans to lay off approximately 1,666 employees across the four states. 

A spokesperson for Intel declined to specify which business units or departments are most impacted, the report said. However, in late June, the company announced it would begin winding down its automotive division, which was operating under its Chief Computing Group.

The cuts are not limited to the U.S. Intel has also started notifying hundreds of employees in Israel of upcoming job losses, according to local news outlet Ynet. The company employs around 4,000 people at its Kiryat Gat campus.

Intel’s restructuring comes as the company seeks to reposition itself amid a rapidly shifting technology landscape defined by artificial intelligence and advanced computing models. Since taking over as CEO in March, Lip-Bu Tan has emphasized the need to streamline Intel’s operations and double down on its core chipmaking capabilities.

For the third day in a row, app-based cab services across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region have remained largely unavailable, as drivers associated with ride-hailing platforms like Ola and Uber continue their strike demanding better pay and stronger protections. The strike has caused widespread commuter disruptions, particularly at key transit hubs like Mumbai Airport, and forced many passengers to turn to alternative modes of transport.

The protest, led by the Maharashtra Gig Works Manch, is not just about fare hikes — it’s about recognition, regulation and survival in a system gig workers say is heavily tilted against them.

What Are the Drivers Demanding?

While a key demand is fare parity with Mumbai’s traditional black-and-yellow taxis, which currently charge Rs 32 per kilometre for air-conditioned rides, the protest is also aimed at addressing deeper structural issues in the gig economy. 

The Maharashtra Gig Works Manch has outlined the following demands:

- Ban on bike taxis operating via aggregator apps, which drivers say are eroding their earnings.

- Permit caps for black-and-yellow taxis and auto-rickshaws to prevent market oversaturation.

- Formation of a welfare board for gig-based transport workers.

- Introduction of a ‘Maharashtra Gig Workers' Act’, on the lines of similar laws in other states, to provide social and financial protections.

So far, the Maharashtra government has not announced any formal response to the drivers’ demands.

FIFA announced on Tuesday that applications for tickets to the highly anticipated 2026 World Cup will officially open on September 10, kicking off the countdown to what the organization promises will be the "biggest and greatest sporting event ever."

The 2026 edition of the tournament will be jointly hosted by Canada, Mexico, and the United States, and is set to begin on June 11 at the iconic Azteca Stadium in Mexico city. This marks the first time the World Cup will be staged across three countries and feature an expanded format with 48 teams.

Due to expected overwhelming demand, FIFA said the tickets will be released in phases, though it did not specify if dynamic pricing - which adjusts prices based on demand - will be implemented, as seen in previous tournaments like the Club World Cup.

"We're looking forward to welcoming the world back to North America," FIFA President Gianni Infantino said in a statement, as per reports. "We encourage fans everywhere to get ready to secure their place - these will be the most coveted seats in world sport."

Further details about pricing, match schedules, and host city allocations are expected to be released closer to the application window opening.
