The move comes after a 16-year tenure at Google and is seen as a major win for Microsoft as it doubles down on its AI ambitions.

In a candid post announcing the move, Subramanya wrote, "Super excited to share that I’ve started a new position as Corporate VP, AI at Microsoft AI.” He added, “Just one week into my new role, I’m already feeling deeply energized. The culture here is refreshingly low ego yet bursting with ambition.”

According to the Financial Times, Subramanya is part of a wave of 24 engineers, researchers, and product specialists Microsoft has recently poached from Google.

Trump wants to rename ‘artificial intelligence’, because it sounds 'too fake'

Walmart announced a bold new AI strategy on Thursday, unveiling a suite of generative AI-powered "super giants" aimed at transforming how customers shop and how its vast network of employees, suppliers, and developers engage with the company, Reuters reported.

Dubbed "agentic AI", the technology is designed to operate with minimal human oversight and carry out tasks more independently than traditional generative AI. These super agents - targeted at shoppers, store employees, sellers/suppliers, and developers - will consolidate multiple tools into a single interface, becoming the primary way users interact with Walmart's digital systems.

The initiative is a major play in Walmart's race to boost its e-commerce arm, with an ambitious target to make online sales account for 50% of its total revenue within the next five years, the report added. The company generated $648 billion in sales last year.

One such agent, "Sparky," already active in the Walmart app, uses generative AI to help shoppers with tasks like product suggestions, summarizing reviews, or finding the right ink cartridge. In its upgraded super agent form, Sparky will be able to reorder household items, plan themed events, and even suggest recipes by analyzing the contents of a shopper's fridge via computer vision.

For employees, Walmart is developing an "Associate" super agent designed to streamline internal tasks - from applying for parental leave to real-time sales insights - eliminating the need to juggle multiple AI tools.

On the supplier and seller side, "Marty" is being created to ease the onboarding process, automate order management, and assist with campaign creation for advertisers.

Another tool, the "Developer" super agent, will serve as a foundational platform for testing and launching future AI applications.

the announcement, made during an event in New York, comes amid a broader industry trend of integrating AI into daily operations, the report added. 

According to the report, Walmart has so far avoided linking job reductions directly to AI, though the company has been streamlining its workforce amid automation-led changes in fulfilment centers. When asked whether these new AI tools could replace jobs, Dave Glick, SVP of enterprise business systems, claimed the technology would create new roles, but did not elaborate.

This week, Walmart also hired Daniel Danker, formerly of Instacart, as its new EVP of AI acceleration, product and design. The company has also created a second new leadership role - EVP of AI - that is currently vacant.

Brands to exercise caution as AI overviews alter online behavior

AI summaries have been found to alter online behavior, according to WARC, but some experts don’t think AI-based search will completely replace traditional search engines in the near future.

The Pew Research Center, a nonprofit organization, first published results of its study in May, but has subsequently released more information about the data. It includes the following takeaways:

Google users who encountered an AI summary clicked on a traditional search result link in 8% of all visits; but those who did not encounter an AI summary clicked on a search result nearly twice as often (15% of visits).

Google users are more likely to end their browsing sessions when they visit pages that have an AI overview (on 26% of pages with an AI summary) versus 16% of pages with traditional results.

The most frequently cited sources – accounting for 15% of AI summaries – were Wikipedia, YouTube and Reddit.

AI in Healthcare: Smarter Than Doctors?
Altman didn’t stop at call centers. He turned to another high-stakes domain: healthcare. He claimed that AI, particularly tools like ChatGPT, has now surpassed most human doctors in diagnostic accuracy.

“ChatGPT today, by the way, most of the time, can give you better—it's like, a better diagnostician than most doctors in the world,” Altman noted.

Still, the OpenAI chief wasn’t ready to fully entrust AI with his own healthcare, acknowledging that despite the leap in accuracy, human oversight remains crucial.

“Yet people still go to doctors, and I am not—like, maybe I’m a dinosaur here—but I really do not want to entrust my medical fate to ChatGPT with no human doctor in the loop,” he admitted.

A growing cost-of-living gap, consumers’ proactive approach to health, and the emergence of alternative social activities are among the biggest trends influencing consumer spending this year, according to WARC’s 2025 Consumer Trends Report.

Based on a comprehensive set of GWI surveys across 54 markets combined with WARC’s own research, case studies and analysis, the report focuses on five broad trends influencing brand selection: the widening cost-of-living gap, increasing trust in individual creators, AI assistants disrupting the purchase journey, consumers’ proactive approach to health, and the rise of alternative social activities.

“With this report we aim to provide a wider view of the major issues confronting our industry from the perspective of consumers, with suggestions to help businesses create the most impact in the coming year,” Siew said.

Economic uncertainty continues to cast gloom over consumer sentiment, but a shift is underway as consumers move from cautious to more intentional spending, highlighted report. An emphasis on control is also apparent other aspects of their lives, particularly in the way they consume information, manage their wellbeing, and connect with others. 

Understanding shifts in consumer behaviour and the motivations behind them will help brands stay ahead of the market and maintain their relevance to customers.

- The widening cost-of-living gap: 55% of low-income consumers would rather pay less for a cheaper own-brand product than pay more for a brand they know

Within the low-income segment, 55% of consumers worldwide surveyed by GWI said they would rather pay less for a cheaper own-brand product than pay more for a brand they know. This compares to 40% in the high-income segment who said the same. The popularity of private label or own-brand products reflects consumers’ growing willingness to switch brands for better value.

- The growing credibility of individual creators: Nearly half (47%) of social media users have made purchases based on influencer endorsements in the past year

Per GWI, consumers are now more likely to get their news from social media (57%) than from more traditional channels such as national TV news (52%) and news websites (49%). Consumption varies widely by generation — 71% of Gen Z have seen, read, or heard information on news from social media in the last month, compared to 62% of millennials, 48% of Gen X, and 33% of baby boomers.


- The humanisation of AI: 24% of consumers are happy to have AI agents do their shopping for them

ChatGPT remains the most popular AI tool among consumers (45% say they have used it in the past month), but others, such as Google Gemini and Microsoft Copilot, are quickly gaining ground.

- A proactive approach to health: 77% of consumers are concerned about the associated health risks of ultra-processed foods

Nearly a third (31%) of consumers say they have purchased vitamins or supplements in the past month, up 7pp from 24% in 2022, per GWI. Research by McKinsey revealed that millennials and Gen Z in the US were more likely than their older counterparts to have purchased a health and wellness product or service.

- Rewriting the rules of social connection: Half of Gen Z (51%) and millennials (50%) play board games at least once a month

Appeal of board games to younger consumers — around half of Gen Z (51%) and millennials (50%) say they play board games at least once a month. The most commonly played games are strategy, word / trivia, and party games.

For some, a greater focus on health and wellbeing has boosted their interest in fitness and exercise (38% of consumers), sports (33%), and outdoor activities such as camping and hiking (33%).

The report mentioned that the gap between the richest and the poorest households is widening, exacerbating differences in their spending.

Meanwhile, consumer attention is increasingly shifting to non-traditional information sources, as innovation around AI agents expected to disrupt the way customers engage with brands.

Further, growing health consciousness and advancements in health tracking are empowering consumers to take more control over their health. Additionally, consumers, especially younger generations, are rethinking the way they spend time together.

Altman said AI-generated voice clones have now become so sophisticated that they can convincingly replicate human speech patterns—making it almost impossible to tell a real person from a fake one. That capability, he warned, poses an imminent threat to banks still dependent on voice recognition for authorizing high-value transactions.

He stressed the urgency, saying this isn’t some distant theoretical problem:

“Some bad actor is going to release it – this is not a super difficult thing to do. This is coming very, very soon.”

Voiceprint Security

Voice-based authentication systems became popular over a decade ago, especially for verifying high-net-worth clients. But in today’s AI era, such systems are increasingly vulnerable. With just a few seconds of audio, modern AI tools can now clone someone’s voice with frightening accuracy—and soon, even generate realistic video impersonations.

Altman emphasized that traditional authentication methods must be overhauled immediately, or banks risk opening the door to AI-driven fraud at an unprecedented scale.

Altman also touched upon another disruptive force unleashed by AI: the automation of entire job sectors, particularly customer support.

During the same panel, he noted that AI has already transformed how companies handle customer service, with intelligent agents that are not only competent but more efficient than humans.

“Now you call one of these things and AI answers. It’s like a super-smart, capable person,” Altman said. “There’s no phone tree, there’s no transfers. It can do everything that any customer support agent at that company could do. It does not make mistakes. It’s very quick. You call once, the thing just happens, it’s done.”

He added that this shift isn’t speculative—it’s already well underway. The age of AI-powered service has arrived, and the traditional roles that once required human interaction are rapidly disappearing. Altman’s remarks serve as both a cautionary instruction and a call to action.

AI can fool banks and wipe out jobs, warns OpenAI CEO Sam Altman

AI summaries have been found to alter online behavior, according to WARC, but some experts don’t think AI-based search will completely replace traditional search engines in the near future.

The Pew Research Center, a nonprofit organization, first published results of its study in May, but has subsequently released more information about the data. It includes the following takeaways: 

Google users who encountered an AI summary clicked on a traditional search result link in 8% of all visits; but those who did not encounter an AI summary clicked on a search result nearly twice as often (15% of visits).

Google users are more likely to end their browsing sessions when they visit pages that have an AI overview (on 26% of pages with an AI summary) versus 16% of pages with traditional results. 

The most frequently cited sources – accounting for 15% of AI summaries – were Wikipedia, YouTube and Reddit. 

Google searches that contain more words lead to an AI summary more often: 53% of the time when the search term contains 10 or more words, 8% when it’s just one or two words. 

The study, based on an analysis of 900 US adults who agreed to share their online browsing activity in March, specifically looked at Google overviews: a top-line finding is that most people will end their browsing session when they encounter a summary than when they don’t.

Experts debate impact of AI search

Datos, a market intelligence firm, has found that the percentage of traffic going to browser-based AI search (excluding mobile and apps) has more than doubled since June 2024, WARC added. It stands at 5.6% of US search traffic, but it’s still very far off the 94% of traffic that goes to traditional search engines. 

Eli Goodman, the chief executive and co-founder of Datos, told the Wall Street Journal that the growth in AI searches could mark “a sea change in online behavior”. 

The numbers, he added, are more striking when you look at early adopters of LLMs such as ChatGPT or Perplexity. “Traditional search engines’ share of the desktop browser traffic from these early adopters fell significantly in the same period, to 61% in June from around 76% a year earlier,” reported the WSJ.

But Goodman said that brands should proceed with caution, despite what appears to be rapid change, and that’s because 90% AI searches are “informational or productivity-based”, such as help me solve this problem or answer this question. 

Andrew Lipsman, founder of consulting firm Media, Ads + Commerce, believes AI overviews and search are becoming another responsibility for marketers rather than a replacement for search engines.

He added that the spread of advertising in AI search replies “may become the next turning point” and will require new spend from brands that want to remain competitive. 

Why it matters 

The findings suggest that AI development is rapidly changing online behavior, perhaps faster than previously thought, said WARC. Publishers have long complained that they are under threat because the combination of AI search and overviews has been found to depress website traffic significantly. Some have reported a drop of as much as 70%.

Moreover, LLMs reveal just one answer and do not list a series of links in response to a search – and that means there are fewer opportunities for brands to appear in front of consumers. 

Brands that have heavily relied on web traffic and traditional SEO are going to have to rethink their tactics for reaching online communities and users, not to mention how they might work with content creators.

Brands to exercise caution as AI overviews alter online behavior

Infosys said it has rolled out more than 300 Agentic AI solutions across client engagements and internal systems, underscoring the rapid shift from pilot programs to scaled enterprise AI adoption.

At the Q1 FY26 earnings call, CEO Salil Parekh said the AI agents are already delivering improved productivity and decision-making across use cases such as customer support, software engineering, operations, and enterprise decision systems. “These AI platforms are embedded within client environments and are accelerating digital transformation efforts,” he noted.

Agentic AI defined as AI’s ability to autonomously act based on contextual understanding is gaining traction across the Indian IT services sector. Rival Wipro has deployed over 200 enterprise AI agents, with CEO Srinivas Pallia pointing to a clear pivot in client investments toward AI.

“We’re moving beyond pilots. Enterprises are scaling these AI agents,” Parekh said, noting Infosys is deploying both standalone agents and integrated solutions tied to clients' core systems.

Infosys has trained over 250,000 employees in AI and GenAI capabilities, and continues to invest in platforms and talent to support client needs.

The Bengaluru-based IT major also closed $2.1 billion in large deals in the June quarter — the highest in four quarters — with many involving AI-driven or cost-optimization components.

On the financial front, Infosys reported a consolidated net profit of ₹6,921 crore in Q1 FY26, an 8.7% increase year-on-year, beating analyst expectations. Revenue rose 7.5% to ₹42,279 crore. A Bloomberg poll had estimated profit at ₹6,778 crore and revenue at ₹41,724 crore.

Growth was led by Europe, which saw 12.3% constant currency revenue growth. North America remained flat. The company retained its operating margin guidance at 20–22% for FY26. Q1 margins stood at 20.8%, with pricing gains and seasonal efficiencies offsetting wage hikes and investment costs.

Sector-wise, Infosys flagged softness in manufacturing, logistics, and consumer products, but noted improving demand in energy, utilities, and telecom.
